Episode Title: Episode #31 | Top Recommendations for the Carnival Panorama

Published: 2/20/2026

Episode Summary

J and D share their extensive experience sailing on the Carnival Panorama to help new and returning cruisers avoid missing out on included amenities. They break down their top 10 practical recommendations across four distinct categories: food, drinks, activities, and general cruising tips. By cutting through the clutter of available information, listeners can learn how to navigate the ship like a pro and get the absolute most out of their time on board.

Key Takeaways

  • Cruisers often miss out on included fare items or overlook alternative options simply because they do not research their vacation beforehand.
  • The Carnival Hub app is an essential digital tool for your trip, allowing you to connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi network for free. It is also the primary way to check into the main dining room and track the daily activity schedule.
  • Booking a Havana room offers an exclusive “country club” experience away from the crowds. Guests receive private access to an outdoor area featuring a heated infinity pool and two large hot tubs.
  • Understanding how to properly use the ship’s smart elevators by pressing the floor button for each individual person riding prevents overly full elevators and unnecessary frustration

Carnival Panorama Cruise Overview

J: We are a middle-aged couple navigating the world together, and hopefully you find some value in our experiences. I’m your host, Jay.

J: Sitting right beside me is my wife and co-host, D.

D: Today we’re talking about something we spend a lot of time doing: cruising. We actually just got back from our 14-day back-to-back trip on the Carnival Panorama out of Long Beach.

D: To give you some perspective, this is our eighth and ninth sailing on the Panorama and our 22nd and 23rd cruise with Carnival overall.

J: Every time we get on a ship, without fail, we notice the same thing. We see new cruisers who just don’t know the ropes.

J: They end up missing out on things that are already included in their fare, or they completely overlook options they didn’t even realize they had.

J: I used to assume everyone operated like I do. I figured people naturally did a little research before a trip to learn the ins and outs, figure out what is free, and see what costs extra.

J: Experience has shown me otherwise. Cruise after cruise, it really makes you wonder why folks invest so much of their hard-earned time and money into a vacation without looking under the hood first.

D: The reality is it is not from a lack of information. The internet is flooded with Facebook groups for specific sailings, blog posts, and video breakdowns of details about these ships. But sifting through all that noise can be exhausting.

J: So we decided to cut through the clutter for you. Today we’re sharing our practical recommendations for food, drinks, activities, and general tips specifically for the Carnival Panorama.

J: We put together ten solid recommendations for each category to help you get the absolute most out of your time on board.

J: So let’s jump right in. We’ll start with food first.

Top 10 Food Recommendations on Carnival Panorama

#10: Eat in the Main Dining Room as Much as Possible

D: So our top ten food recommendations. At number ten, we put eating in the main dining room as much as possible.

J: Yeah, this is something that I, being a foodie, really enjoy about cruising. It’s an upscale dining experience.

J: Sometimes they have elegant nights in there, but it’s really good because all the food is included. It’s a three-course meal and it’s a good way to try new things that you normally wouldn’t spend money on.

J: For example, they’ve offered escargot, frog legs, braised ox tongue, and other items I probably never would have ordered on my own.

J: They’ve also had some unique cold soups that I probably would never have tried if they weren’t offered in the main dining room, such as a strawberry chia seed soup and a cucumber avocado soup.

D: They also have really good desserts in the main dining room that they don’t have in the marketplace.

J: These are typically located on Deck 3 midship, or Decks 3 and 4 aft on this ship.

J: If you’re going to something like this, know that it’s a traditional sit-down restaurant. Put on your patient pants. This isn’t something where you’re rushing in and rushing out.

J: It’s a time for enjoying the food and enjoying the conversation with the people at your table, or even the people around your table.

D: Exactly. It does take a little bit of time, but most of the time it’s well worth it.

D: This is also where the dining room staff gets to know who you are and what you like to eat. They’ll often automatically bring you the specific salad with the specific dressing you like, or they’ll know how you like your meat cooked.

J: That’s kind of specific to the type of dining you choose. If you have set-time dining, then yes, that’s the case because you get the same wait staff and the same table every night.

J: But if you have Anytime Dining, you check in through the Hub App and you’ll likely get different tables and different wait staff from night to night.

#9: Try Cucina del Capitano or JiJi Asian Kitchen for Lunch

J: Alright, so number nine: try Cucina or JiJi’s, which are the Italian and Asian restaurants.

J: They’re typically an additional charge for dinner, but for lunch on certain days, such as sea days, they are available for free.

J: It’s a scaled-down menu, but it’s still a great way to try those options.

J: We’ve both tried them. Basically, you go up there, fill out a checklist, choose your noodles, sauces, proteins, and vegetables, and they prepare everything fresh for you.

J: You end up with a bowl of pasta, noodles, or rice depending on which venue you choose.

D: They’re kind of hidden. They’re located on Deck 11, but the way you get there is from Deck 10, which is the Lido Marketplace.

D: You go upstairs, so a lot of people don’t even know what those stairs lead to. There’s a menu posted on the wall, but many people still miss it.

J: When we mention the Lido, we’re talking about the buffet area. There’s a buffet toward the middle of the ship and another toward the back.

J: The stairway you’re looking for is toward the back of the ship.

#8: Get a Breakfast Burrito at BlueIguana Cantina

D: Number eight is the breakfast burrito at BlueIguana.

J: I know you’ve never done this because they only offer two tortilla options: a wheat tortilla and a jalapeño tortilla, and I know you don’t do jalapeños.

J: But I’ve tried it, and they make a really good breakfast burrito.

J: It’s a quick option for port days when you’re getting up early. You can grab a burrito and skip fighting the crowds in the Lido buffet.

J: Everything is made with fresh ingredients.

J: I think they also offer Mexican-style eggs instead of just standard scrambled eggs.

D: This is also located on the Lido Deck near the pool.

D: It’s right before you enter the Marketplace and directly across from Guy’s Burger Joint.

J: Even though I’ve never had it, my brother also raves about their huevos rancheros for breakfast, so that’s something else to consider.

#7: Have Breakfast in the Main Dining Room Instead of the Buffet

J: Number seven is breakfast in the main dining room instead of the buffet.

J: A lot of people naturally gravitate toward the buffet because it’s easy, quick, and familiar.

J: But every day they offer breakfast in the main dining room, whether it’s a regular breakfast or a Sea Day Brunch.

J: We eat there most of the time.

D: About 95% of the time.

J: You do need to check in using the Hub App, but that’s very easy.

J: We usually check in right from our room before we even head down.

D: It’ll tell you how long the wait is, so you don’t have to stand around downstairs with everyone else.

J: And if you value really good orange juice, this is probably the only place on the ship where you can get freshly squeezed orange juice for free.

J: The stuff served in the Marketplace is more of a powdered mix and isn’t nearly as good.

J: We go there specifically for the orange juice. My wife takes her daily vitamins with it, and so do I.

D: Don’t forget that breakfast is different from brunch.

D: Breakfast opens early and closes early, while brunch stays open until almost 12:30.

D: One day I ordered the chocolate cake at brunch and it was absolutely amazing.

D: I definitely recommend the seven-layer chocolate cake.

J: They also offer yogurt parfaits during both breakfast and Sea Day Brunch.

J: During brunch they serve things like burgers, steak and eggs, salads, and traditional breakfast items.

D: Chicken and waffles, too.

J: Yep, chicken and waffles as well.

D: I definitely prefer the Sea Day Brunch.

J: And again, that’s located on Deck 3 aft during the mornings.

#6: Fresh Creations Salad Bar for Lunch

D: Number six is Fresh Creations for lunch.

D: It’s located on the Serenity Deck and is available on sea days only.

J: It offers a healthier option. It’s basically a salad bar where you create your own salad using fresh ingredients.

J: Word has gotten out about it, too. From what I’ve heard, there are often long lines on sea days.

J: I’ve tried it in the past and really enjoyed it.

J: Since it’s located in Serenity, which is the adults-only area, I’m not sure if guests under 21 can access it directly.

J: If you’re traveling with kids who want a salad, a parent may have to go grab one for them.

#5: Have Lunch at Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse

D: Okay, so our number five recommendation would be Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que for lunch.

J: Just like Cucina and JiJi’s, Pig & Anchor is a paid option in the evenings, but on sea days and embarkation day it’s offered as part of your cruise fare.

D: It’s located on Deck 5 on the Lanai, next to the Pig & Anchor bar and restaurant. It’s outside in a little walkway area.

J: Right, out on the Lanai.

D: It’s a nice setup.

J: Typically, you grab your food and can either sit outside or take it inside the restaurant portion of Pig & Anchor and eat there.

D: It’s more buffet-style during lunch service.

J: I’d say it has become pretty popular, too. On our last cruise it was very busy on embarkation day.

#4: Try the Gelato in the Marketplace

J: Number four is to try the gelato in the buffet area for lunch.

J: Each day they offer two different flavors of gelato in the Marketplace.

J: It’s something a little different from the standard soft-serve ice cream you can get elsewhere on the ship.

J: I wouldn’t say the gelato is amazing, but it’s good and gives you another dessert option.

D: Yeah, it’s definitely worth trying if you want something different.

#3: Don’t Miss the Deli or Pizza

D: Number three: don’t miss out on the deli or the pizza.

J: I know you’re not really big on the deli. I think you’ve only had a hot dog there a few times.

D: The hot dogs are hit or miss. Sometimes they’re really good and sometimes they’re not worth getting, so it can be inconsistent.

J: For me, I love the deli.

J: I’ve had great experiences there and some of my favorite sandwiches are the buffalo chicken sandwich, the meatball sandwich, and the Reuben.

J: They get a bad rap because many of the sandwiches are pre-designed, so there isn’t a lot of customization available.

J: But they really are good sandwiches, so if you like sandwiches, definitely check it out.

D: The pizza is also open really late.

D: Pizza is available until 2:00 a.m. and the deli stays open until 11:00 p.m.

D: Those are great options if you miss dinner or get hungry later after dancing, drinking, or hanging out around the ship.

#2: Eat a Guy’s Burger

J: Number two is to eat a Guy’s Burger.

J: This is a must on any Carnival ship if you eat burgers.

J: The only exception would probably be if you’re a vegetarian.

J: Honestly, this is something I’d recommend even if you’re trying to cut carbs.

J: We do that all the time now. We’ll go up there and order just the burger patties with cheese, or without cheese, and eat them with a fork and knife.

J: It’s a simple way to enjoy the food while cutting out the bun.

#1: Try the Fresh-Made Tortillas at BlueIguana

D: And our number one food recommendation is to try the fresh-made tortillas at BlueIguana.

D: They typically serve them with tacos, but I usually create a burrito bowl and then ask for a couple tortillas on the side.

D: They literally make the tortillas right in front of you.

D: They’re fresh, warm, and really good.

D: I’ll often grab a little dish of butter from the Marketplace and then head back to BlueIguana for a couple warm tortillas.

J: That’s something I just tried on our last cruise because you mentioned doing it during our transatlantic cruise.

J: It was really good.

J: You can choose exactly what ingredients you want in your bowl and then use the tortillas to make your own tacos.

J: That’s basically what I did.

J: Honestly, I liked it much better than the pre-made tacos they normally prepare.

D: Something we haven’t tried yet, but one of our friends did on our last cruise, was the empanada station.

D: She said they were really good, so that might be worth checking out as well.

J: Just keep in mind that the empanadas are an extra charge.

J: They’re kind of hidden, too. I believe they’re located on Deck 5 near the Plaza Bar where a lot of the trivia events take place.

J: They’re only open during certain times, so keep that in mind.

D: The Seafood Shack is there as well, and that’s another extra-cost option.

J: The Seafood Shack used to be a better value. They used to have lobster rolls for around $12, but now they’re closer to $18.

J: Prices have gone up quite a bit.

D: But it does give you another food option.

J: As someone who has had the lobster rolls, I’d say they were definitely worth $12.

J: I’m not completely convinced they’re worth $18, though.

Top 10 Drink Recommendations on Carnival Panorama

J: Alright, now we’re going to move on to our drink recommendations.

#10: Get a Cuban Coffee from the Havana Bar

J: Number ten is something a lot of people don’t know about: get a Cuban coffee from the Havana Bar.

J: If you like coffee, you probably know about JavaBlue and maybe the coffee available at the Plaza Bar.

J: But a lot of people don’t know about the Havana Bar.

J: Even if you don’t have a Havana stateroom, you can still access the indoor Havana Bar area where they have dancing and live music.

J: The bar opens in the mornings and has an espresso machine.

J: It’s the only place on the ship that serves Cuban coffee.

J: If you’ve never tried one before, it’s a great opportunity to experience it without visiting a Cuban restaurant in Florida.

D: It’s located on Deck 5 at the back of the ship.

J: Just a heads-up: Cuban coffee is both strong and sweet.

#9: Try a Flight of House-Brewed Beers at Pig & Anchor

D: I’m going to let you take number nine. I’m not much of a beer drinker.

J: Number nine is trying a flight of beers brewed right on the ship at Pig & Anchor.

J: Pig & Anchor isn’t just a restaurant and bar. It’s also a brewery.

J: They brew their own beers onboard.

J: You can order a beer flight, which usually includes four different beers, allowing you to sample each one before committing to a full pint.

J: I’m not a huge beer drinker myself. If I’m having a drink, it’s usually whiskey.

J: But a lot of people don’t realize Carnival actually brews beer onboard, and this is a great way to experience it.

#8: Get a Milkshake from JavaBlue Café

D: Number eight is getting a milkshake from JavaBlue Café.

D: They’re often overlooked, but they’re really good.

D: They’re made fresh with real ingredients, including fresh strawberries.

D: Sometimes it’s hard to justify getting one because there are so many other food options available on the ship.

D: But if you enjoy milkshakes, they’re excellent.

D: They’re also included with the Cheers beverage package.

J: The only time we really indulged in them was during our transatlantic cruise after your accident in Lisbon.

J: You were limited to very soft foods.

D: I dislocated my jaw, so milkshakes became one of my primary food groups.

D: They were really good and surprisingly filling.

D: For me they were practically a meal, but for most people they’re just a fun treat.

#7: Try a Cocktail from the Alchemy Bar

J: Number seven is trying a cocktail from the Alchemy Bar.

J: Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably familiar with the Alchemy Bar. If you’re new to cruising, though, this is one of the most popular bars not only on the Panorama but across many Carnival ships.

J: They use fresh ingredients, herbs, and premium spirits to create handcrafted cocktails.

J: Some of the most popular drinks include the Cucumber Sunrise, Forty Is the New Twenty, the Spicy Chipotle Pineapple Martini, and the Martini Seduction.

J: And that’s just a handful of options. They have an entire menu of unique cocktails.

D: If I’m going to drink, this is usually where I’m getting my drinks.

D: They make amazing fruity cocktails with ingredients like passion fruit and strawberries, which are more my style.

J: Even if you don’t drink alcohol, they’ve started offering alcohol-free cocktails made with the same fresh ingredients.

J: So you can still enjoy the atmosphere and socialize with everyone without drinking alcohol.

#6: Order a Hurricane Wave from the Poolside Bar

D: Number six is trying a Hurricane Wave from one of the poolside bars.

D: It’s basically a strawberry-banana daiquiri, and they are so good.

D: It’s no longer listed on the menu, but if you ask for one, the bartenders still know how to make it.

D: It also looks really cool because one side is strawberry and the other side is banana.

D: Once you swirl it together, it not only looks great but tastes amazing.

J: That’s one of your favorite drinks.

D: Absolutely. They’re very good.

D: They also have other layered frozen drinks like Kiss on the Lips and a few others.

D: The presentation is part of the appeal because the colors stay separated until you mix them together.

#5: Try a Fun Ship Special

J: Number five is trying a Fun Ship Special.

J: This is the drink Carnival really pushes around the Lido Deck on embarkation day.

J: You’ll often see it served in specialty souvenir cups.

J: It’s basically Carnival’s version of a rum punch.

J: They taste fantastic, but they’re also dangerous.

J: They’re stronger than they taste and can sneak up on you quickly.

D: I think they’ve changed the recipe over the years.

D: I had one several years ago while unpacking our cabin.

D: By the time I finished unpacking, I could barely stand up.

D: It tasted like Kool-Aid and was incredibly easy to drink.

D: I tried one more recently and it tasted a little different, so I’m not sure if the recipe changed or not.

J: Back then, I think they were calling it a Rum Punch.

J: Now they’ve rebranded it as the Fun Ship Special.

J: Whether the recipe changed or not, it’s still a very popular drink.

#4: Try a Southern Gentleman from Pig & Anchor

J: Number four is the Southern Gentleman from Pig & Anchor.

J: It’s basically a sweeter version of an Old Fashioned.

J: It’s a great drink for someone who is new to whiskey or a little hesitant about trying whiskey.

J: It doesn’t have the strong bite that many traditional whiskey drinks have.

#3: Order a Smoothie Instead of a Daiquiri

D: Number three is trying a smoothie version of any of the frozen daiquiri drinks.

D: Any flavor they can make as a daiquiri, they can also make as a smoothie.

J: A smoothie is basically the same drink, just without the alcohol.

D: Correct.

D: This is what I typically order since I’m not much of a drinker.

D: They’re a little cheaper because they don’t include alcohol.

D: They usually run around $9 or $9.50 and they’re incredibly refreshing on a hot day by the pool.

D: They offer all kinds of flavors including raspberry, banana, peach, and strawberry.

D: You can also mix flavors if you’d like.

D: They’re a great option for kids as well.

J: Or for adults who simply don’t want an alcoholic drink in the middle of the day.

D: Exactly.

J: The only thing I’d mention is that they’re still very sugary, just like the daiquiris.

J: So you may want to enjoy them in moderation.

#2: Try an Old Fashioned at Pig & Anchor

J: Number two is trying an Old Fashioned from Pig & Anchor.

J: Pig & Anchor is very whiskey-oriented, so they carry a large selection of whiskeys and bourbons.

J: Their standard Old Fashioned is made with Woodford Reserve.

J: However, they’ll make it with just about any whiskey or bourbon they have available.

J: If you make friends with the bartender, they’ll sometimes even smoke the drink for you.

J: They have a small dome where they burn rosemary to create smoke.

J: They place the drink underneath it and infuse it with that smoky flavor.

J: It’s a nice twist on a traditional Old Fashioned.

#1: Get a Bloody Mary from Pig & Anchor

D: I’ll let you take the number one spot.

J: Number one is trying a Bloody Mary from Pig & Anchor.

J: This is probably the drink that Pig & Anchor is most famous for.

J: You can get Bloody Marys all over the ship, but you’re not going to get one quite like this.

D: They’re definitely impressive looking.

J: Besides looking good, they taste fantastic.

J: They’re made with Tito’s vodka that’s infused with vegetables and seasonings.

J: Behind the bar they keep a large glass container filled with olives, peppers, onions, carrots, and other ingredients.

J: The vodka is poured over everything and infused throughout the week.

J: When they make the Bloody Mary, they load it up with garnishes.

J: You’ll get olives, celery, plenty of bacon, and all kinds of extras.

J: It’s basically a meal in a glass.

D: It’s huge.

D: I think they put four strips of bacon on it.

J: You can order it in a regular pint glass, which is how they normally serve it.

J: They also offer a larger souvenir version that’s around 32 ounces.

J: It costs more because you get to keep the Pig & Anchor souvenir glass, but it’s enormous.

Top 10 Activities on Carnival Panorama

D: Our next top ten category is activities.

#10: Ride the Water Slides

D: At number ten, we’re going to recommend riding the water slides.

D: They’re not just for kids. They’re also for adults who are kids at heart.

D: It’s a great way to cool off without spending all day in the crowded pools.

D: You like those.

J: I do.

J: I just don’t usually go ride them by myself.

J: If somebody else wants to ride them, I’m all in.

J: They’re definitely fun.

J: I think there are two large slides on the Panorama.

D: Once our granddaughter gets old enough, you’ll be riding them with her for sure.

D: Personally, I don’t enjoy cold water, so I usually skip them.

#9: Play a Round of Mini Golf

J: Number nine is playing a round of mini golf.

J: It’s one of those activities that people often forget about.

J: On this ship it’s a nine-hole course located high up on the ship.

D: I think it’s on Deck 12.

J: I believe you’re right.

J: It’s another activity that would normally cost money on land, but it’s included in your cruise fare.

J: If you enjoy miniature golf, get out there and have some fun.

D: It’s definitely a good time.

#8: Relax by the Lido Pool and Enjoy the Atmosphere

D: Number eight is to relax in a lounge chair around the Lido Pool and enjoy the music.

D: There’s always something going on around the Lido Deck.

J: And if there isn’t live music, there are usually activities happening.

J: They’re running games, contests, or some kind of entertainment throughout the day.

D: That’s where most of the action on the ship takes place.

J: It’s also one of the best places for people-watching.

D: Absolutely.

J: It’s also one of the most crowded places on the ship.

D: Very true.

J: If you’re looking for a quiet place to read, though, this probably isn’t it.

J: Areas like Serenity or some of the outdoor decks are much better for that.

D: Absolutely.

#7: Complete the Ropes Course

J: Number seven is doing the ropes course.

J: The Panorama has a ropes course located on one of the upper decks.

J: It’s a really fun activity and it’s completely free.

J: They harness you in and you get elevated above the deck, giving you some incredible views while you’re navigating the course.

J: Some of the newer XL-class ships have even more elaborate versions with zip lines and additional obstacles.

J: This one isn’t quite as elaborate, but it’s still a lot of fun.

J: I remember one of the first times we sailed this ship, one of our friends went up there and realized they were too afraid of heights to continue.

D: They didn’t make it very far.

D: If you get up there and decide it isn’t for you, that’s completely okay.

D: You can always turn around and come back.

J: One important thing to remember is that you must wear closed-toe shoes to participate.

J: So plan accordingly.

#6: Relax in Serenity

D: Number six is to relax in Serenity.

D: Serenity is the adults-only area on the ship.

D: It’s restricted to guests who are 21 and older.

D: The area has two hot tubs and plenty of lounge chairs.

D: There isn’t a pool in Serenity on the Panorama, but it does have a very peaceful atmosphere.

D: It’s also where you’ll find the bar and the Fresh Creations salad station on sea days.

D: It’s a great place to relax, read, sunbathe, or simply get away from the crowds.

D: Just keep in mind that it becomes very popular on sea days and sunny afternoons.

D: If you want a good seat, arrive early.

#5: Attend the Love and Marriage Show

J: Number five is attending the Love and Marriage Show.

J: This is a show we’ve seen on most cruises that are six days or longer.

J: It’s very similar to the Newlywed Game.

J: The questions are generally the same each cruise, but the couples are what make the show entertaining.

J: That’s why every performance feels different.

J: They usually bring up three couples: one newly married couple, one couple that’s been married the longest, and another couple somewhere in between.

J: The answers are what make the show hilarious.

J: It’s one of those events that always makes me laugh.

J: We actually participated in it on our wedding cruise back in 2016.

D: It’s definitely a funny show.

D: Participating was a lot of fun.

D: Although Jay got a little stage fright.

#4: Go to the Comedy Shows in the Limelight Lounge

D: Number four is going to the comedy shows in the Limelight Lounge.

D: This is something I don’t do as often as I probably should.

D: But every time I go, I have a great time.

D: It’s one of Jay’s favorite activities onboard.

J: Carnival really does have some of the best comedy at sea.

J: The shows are included in your cruise fare, so you can attend as many as you like.

J: They typically offer both family-friendly and adult-only performances each evening.

J: This is one of those activities many first-time cruisers don’t realize is included.

J: They hear about it later in the cruise and wish they had started attending sooner.

J: If you get the chance, I highly recommend seeing at least one comedy show.

#3: Attend the Rock & Glow 80s Deck Party

J: Number three is attending the Rock & Glow 80s Deck Party.

J: Every cruise we’ve been on has featured some version of an 80s-themed deck party.

J: Out of all the deck parties Carnival hosts, this is probably our favorite.

J: They also have events like White Night and Silent Disco, but the 80s party always seems to stand out.

J: You’ll see guests dressed in everything from classic 80s outfits to bright neon colors.

D: Some people go all out with their costumes.

D: It’s a lot of fun to see.

D: They also set up themed photo backdrops throughout the area.

J: That’s true.

J: Even if you don’t dress up, it’s still worth attending.

J: Whether you grew up during the 80s or not, it’s a fun atmosphere with great music and a lot of energy.

#2: Watch or Participate in Family Feud Live

D: Number two is attending Family Feud Live.

D: If you’re on a ship that offers it, this is absolutely a must-do.

D: Carnival recently started offering it on the Panorama.

J: And it has also become popular on the newer XL-class ships.

D: It’s always entertaining.

D: Whether you’re participating or simply watching from the audience, it’s a lot of fun.

D: Just know that this is one of the most popular events onboard.

D: Seats fill up very quickly.

J: If you’re interested in actually competing, don’t wait.

J: As soon as you board the ship, find out when the tryouts are being held.

J: You have to go through the audition process before you’re eligible for the live show.

D: It’s definitely worth it if you enjoy game shows.

#1: Ride SkyRide

J: The number one activity recommendation is riding SkyRide.

J: As far as I know, this attraction is exclusive to Carnival’s Vista-class ships, including the Vista, Horizon, and Panorama.

J: They’re basically pedal-assisted bicycles suspended from an elevated track.

J: There are two tracks side-by-side, so you can race another rider if you want.

J: Or you can take your time and enjoy the views.

J: The views from up there are incredible.

J: It’s another activity that’s completely included in your cruise fare.

J: Just remember that closed-toe shoes are required.

J: Since it’s located in the same area as the ropes course, it’s convenient to do both activities during the same visit.

D: It’s all in the same area, so that works out perfectly.

Top 10 Carnival Panorama Tips

D: Next we’re going to give our top ten general tips for cruising on the Panorama.

#10: Familiarize Yourself with the Ship’s Deck Plans

D: At number ten, we’re going to say familiarize yourself with the ship’s deck plans.

J: Absolutely.

J: Even spending a few minutes looking at the deck plans before your cruise can save you a lot of time onboard.

J: You’ll board the ship on Deck 3 in the atrium area.

J: Most of the indoor activity venues are located on Decks 3, 4, and 5.

J: Most of the outdoor activities are located on Deck 10 and above.

J: The majority of the remaining decks are primarily cabin decks.

J: There are a few exceptions, such as the arcade and some specialty attractions.

J: But if you familiarize yourself with Decks 3 through 5 and then the Lido and upper decks, you’ll quickly know where most of the food, entertainment, and activities are located.

#9: Decorate Your Cabin Door

D: Number nine is bringing something to decorate your cabin door.

D: Not only is it fun, but it serves a practical purpose.

D: Every cabin door looks almost exactly the same.

D: When you’re returning late at night—or after a few drinks—it can be surprisingly easy to lose track of which door is yours.

D: Decorating your door gives you an easy visual marker.

D: Plus, it’s fun to get creative.

D: You’ll see a lot of decorated doors throughout the ship.

D: Some people put a tremendous amount of effort into them.

J: It also makes it easier for family members or friends to find your room.

J: We’ve found family members before simply by spotting their decorated door from down the hallway.

#8: Bring Magnetic Hooks for Your Cabin

J: Number eight is bringing magnetic hooks.

J: The walls in your cabin are metal, and magnetic hooks can make a huge difference when it comes to organization.

J: They give you places to hang hats, glasses, lanyards, important papers, and other items that would otherwise clutter up the limited counter space.

D: Your cabin key if you wear it on a lanyard, jackets, bags—pretty much anything.

D: It helps keep everything organized and off the small tables.

#7: Bring a European Plug Adapter

J: I’ll let you take number seven because you’re the one who introduced me to this trick.

D: This is something I’ve been doing for quite a while.

D: On the Panorama there still aren’t USB ports or power outlets next to the beds.

D: We bring a European plug adapter and use one of the outlets connected to the bedside lamps.

D: We pull the bed out slightly, unplug the lamp, plug in the adapter, and then reconnect everything.

J: The European adapter plugs right into that outlet.

D: Exactly.

D: It gives us USB ports and charging access right beside the bed for our phones, tablets, and other devices.

D: Otherwise, most of your charging has to happen over at the desk area.

D: If you use your phone as an alarm clock or simply like having it nearby while you sleep, it’s much more convenient.

J: This can also be useful for people who travel with CPAP machines.

J: A lot of cruisers complain about not having an outlet close to the bed.

J: This provides another option without running extension cords across the cabin.

#6: Download the Carnival Hub App Before Your Cruise

J: Number six is downloading the Carnival Hub App before you sail.

J: Once you’re onboard, you’ll switch your phone into airplane mode and connect to Carnival’s Wi-Fi network.

J: However, while connected to the ship’s network, you won’t have access to your app store to download the Hub App if you forgot to install it beforehand.

J: The Hub App has become one of the most important tools for cruising with Carnival.

J: It gives you access to schedules, dining information, account details, photos, deck plans, and much more.

D: It’s much more current than relying solely on the printed Fun Times schedule.

J: Carnival still delivers the Fun Times to your cabin, but the Hub App updates in real time.

J: It lets you see what’s happening around the ship, what restaurants are open, which bars are open, and much more.

J: You can also view your onboard account and casino information.

D: The app also includes deck plans.

J: And if you want internet access, you can purchase a Wi-Fi package directly through the app.

J: You can also purchase the onboard chat feature.

D: The chat feature is inexpensive and allows everyone in your group to stay connected.

D: If the kids are up on Deck 12 and you’re somewhere else on the ship, it’s an easy way to communicate.

J: The important thing to understand is that you do not need an internet package to use the Hub App.

J: You simply connect to Carnival’s Wi-Fi network.

J: The Hub App works for free.

J: The internet package is only required if you want access to email, websites, social media, or the broader internet.

#5: Use the Hub App to Check In for Dining

J: Speaking of the Hub App, number five is using it to check in for breakfast and Anytime Dining.

J: I honestly don’t understand why there are always crowds gathered outside the main dining room in the mornings.

J: My assumption is that many people simply don’t know how to use the app correctly.

J: The proper way to do it is to open the Hub App from your cabin and check the current wait times.

J: You can check in yourself and anyone else in your party.

J: Once your table is ready, you’ll receive a notification.

J: At that point you have plenty of time to walk down to the dining room.

J: One tip I’ve learned is to take a screenshot of your table assignment when it appears.

J: I’ve occasionally had issues where the app stopped displaying my table information after I arrived.

J: Having a screenshot avoids any confusion.

J: Once you’re notified, you shouldn’t be standing in a line.

J: You simply walk up, tell the host your table number, and get seated.

J: Yet every cruise we take, there’s still a crowd gathered outside the dining room waiting around.

J: Some people are standing near the elevators and others are sitting on the stairs.

J: There really shouldn’t be that much congestion if everyone is using the app correctly.

#4: Use the Stairs and Walking Track

D: Number four is using the stairs, gym, or walking track to offset all the food you’re going to be eating.

D: Overeating on a cruise is extremely common because there are food options everywhere.

D: I know many people don’t want to spend vacation time in a gym, and that’s perfectly fine.

D: But there are plenty of other ways to stay active.

D: We use the stairs whenever possible.

D: There’s also an outdoor walking track on Deck 12.

D: It’s a great way to get your steps in while enjoying fresh air and ocean views.

J: The views are actually pretty impressive from up there.

D: Another option is simply exploring the ship.

D: Most people settle into routines and only visit the same handful of locations every day.

D: If you wander around and explore, you’ll discover quiet corners, hidden seating areas, and places you didn’t even know existed.

D: Plus, you’ll get plenty of exercise doing it.

J: These ships are huge.

J: Sometimes all it takes is a little curiosity.

D: We’ve sailed on the Panorama nine times and we’re still finding things we didn’t notice before.

#3: Use the Hub App to Discover Activities

J: Number three is using the Hub App to see what’s happening around the ship.

J: The app is incredibly versatile.

J: While the printed Fun Times still exists, the app gives you all the same information and much more.

J: Since most people carry their phones anyway, it makes sense to use it.

J: You can browse activities from morning until late at night for every day of your cruise.

J: When you find something you’re interested in, tap the little heart icon.

J: That adds it to your favorites list.

J: The app will then send you reminders before the event starts so you don’t forget about it.

D: You’ll receive notifications when something you’ve favorited is coming up.

J: It also lets people in your travel group see which activities you’ve marked as favorites.

J: That way they can decide if they want to join you.

D: One activity we haven’t mentioned yet is Build-A-Bear.

D: Carnival offers it on many ships, and I’ve done it on the Panorama.

D: That’s another fun option families might enjoy.

J: And it’s not just for kids.

J: My wife attends as an adult.

D: For my granddaughter.

#2: Check the Main Dining Room Menus in Advance

J: Number two is very similar to number three.

J: Use the Hub App to review the main dining room dinner menus for each day of your cruise.

J: This allows you to see ahead of time whether the menu appeals to you.

J: If nothing on the menu sounds appealing, you can make alternative dinner plans.

J: Maybe you’ll book a specialty restaurant.

J: Maybe you’ll grab a Guy’s Burger before it closes.

J: Or maybe you’ll plan on pizza, deli sandwiches, or the buffet later in the evening.

D: And if you’re already in the dining room and don’t want to use your phone, they’ll always provide a traditional paper menu.

#1: Bring Air Freshener and Poo-Pourri

D: Number one is bringing air freshener and Poo-Pourri for your cabin bathroom.

D: This isn’t talked about nearly enough.

J: Honestly, people rarely talk about it at all.

J: It’s one of those subjects people avoid even though it’s a reality.

D: Cruise cabins are small.

D: Unless you have a balcony, there’s very little ventilation.

D: When you’re sharing a small space with someone, odors can linger.

D: We always bring a bottle of Poo-Pourri and a small air freshener.

J: You can thank us later for that tip.

D: It really does help.

D: And you don’t need anything expensive.

D: Even a small inexpensive air freshener works wonders.

Bonus Tip #1: Book a Havana Room If Your Budget Allows

J: So we have a couple of bonus tips.

J: The first one is that if you can afford it, book a Havana room.

J: The Havana rooms on the Panorama are pretty spectacular.

J: We’ve booked them twice on this ship and loved both experiences.

J: If the price worked for us every time, we’d probably choose a Havana room on every sailing.

D: I call it the country club of cruising.

D: That’s honestly what it feels like.

J: Whether you book a Havana interior, Havana balcony, or another Havana-category room, you receive access to the exclusive Havana outdoor area on Deck 5.

J: This private area includes a heated infinity pool, two large hot tubs, lounge seating, and exclusive access reserved only for Havana guests.

J: One of the best parts is that it’s never overly crowded.

J: You don’t have to compete for lounge chairs the way you do in other parts of the ship.

D: The seating back there is really comfortable.

D: They have nice lounge chairs, tables, and shaded seating areas.

D: Sometimes they’ll even bring around snacks like mixed nuts or small smoothie samples.

D: It really feels like a premium experience.

J: Another thing people like is that children must be at least 12 years old to stay in Havana accommodations.

J: So the atmosphere tends to be much quieter and more relaxed.

D: If you’re someone who enjoys a peaceful place to unwind, it’s hard to beat.

Bonus Tip #2: Learn How the Smart Elevators Work

J: Another bonus tip is to learn how the smart elevators work.

J: This seems to confuse a lot of people.

D: A lot of people.

J: The Panorama uses destination elevators.

J: Instead of getting into the elevator and then selecting your floor, you enter your floor number before you get on.

J: The system then assigns you a specific elevator letter.

J: What many people don’t realize is that each person riding should be counted.

J: If four people are traveling together, they should enter the destination four times.

J: That’s how the system calculates elevator capacity and distributes passengers efficiently.

D: We’ve tested this ourselves.

D: There have been times when it’s just the two of us.

D: I’ll enter our floor once and receive one elevator assignment.

D: Then I’ll enter it again and get assigned a completely different elevator.

D: That tells me the first elevator was already nearing capacity.

D: If everyone used the system properly, it would work much better.

J: Unfortunately, a lot of people only enter their floor once regardless of how many people are in their group.

J: That results in elevators arriving completely full, even though the system expected fewer passengers.

J: Then the next group gets frustrated because they can’t board the elevator they were assigned.

D: Sometimes our assigned elevator arrives and nobody is even inside because the people who were assigned to it never used it properly.

J: Or it’s packed so full that we can’t get on even though that’s the elevator we were told to use.

J: Understanding how the system works can save a lot of frustration throughout your cruise.

Final Thoughts on Carnival Panorama

D: So that wraps up our top recommendations for the Carnival Panorama. She really is a solid ship to spend time on.

D: If I had to mention one downside, it’s that sailing from the West Coast limits your itinerary options.

D: You’re generally looking at Mexican Riviera itineraries over and over again, just like we’ve done.

J: D and I have actually reached the point where we stay onboard during many port days.

J: The ship becomes incredibly quiet while everyone else is ashore.

J: It’s peaceful, relaxing, and gives you a chance to enjoy the ship without the crowds.

J: It really makes you appreciate the value of slowing down and disconnecting.

D: We wanted to record this episode because we see too many people board these ships without understanding what’s available to them.

D: They end up missing out on some of the very things that make cruising such a great vacation.

D: We hope this breakdown helps you get the most out of your trip, whether you already have a Panorama cruise booked or you’re just beginning to consider one.
